Evertons Wine

Four Generations -Wine Merchants Worcester & Worcestershire

Margaret Everton set up the family business back in 1918 in the Black & White village of Ombersley in Worcestershire.

Back in those days it was very much a general stores supplying everything from grain and paraffin to cheese and sherry.

It was when her son Don took over the reins that the wine dominance grew. Starting from humble beginnings the business grew to 21 wine shops and delicatessens throughout the West Midlands trading under the banner of Evertons of Ombersley.

The wholesale part of the business then evolved in the late 1970’s and when Don’s son, Richard, entered the business the wholesale started to grow at greater speed and covered the whole of the UK.

Don & Richard sold the business in the early naughties and after serving a period of restricted trade following the business sale and spending time in the hospitality industry, Richard re-launched the family business under the Bottles Wine Bar & Merchants banner.

Having grown the Bottles name and business into one of the leading Wine Bars in the Midlands, the Worcester City based Specialist Wine Store was awarded Central England Wine Merchant of the Year by International Wine Challenge 2021.

This accolade was seen as a peak by Richard and he decided to sell the Bottles Retail side of the business in October 2022 to concentrate on the wholesale business.

In 2023, Jack, Richard’s son, joined the business and with the 4thgeneration Everton choosing the family trade it seemed the obvious move to re-brand the business back to the Everton name and the wholesale business now trades as Evertons Wine Merchants & Shippers.

OWNER AND DIRECTOR

Richard Everton

Richard Everton is the third generation of the family to master the trade. Richard has spent his entire lifetime working in the wine industry, having travelled the world and working in wineries and vineyards for many years. Richard’s partner Sue is also very much involved in the business, with her passion and dedication combined with Richard’s knowledge, expertise and devotion, this is all helps make Evertons the success it is and contributes  to it going from strength to strength, whilst retaining those strong family virtues.

Jack Everton

Jack is the 4th generation wine merchant in the Everton family and is just getting going in the business full time after years of working in hospitality. Jack started off in his father’s restaurants when he was a teenager and then decided to do some travelling which involved a couple of ski seasons in France and a stint in Spain.

When Jack returned to the UK, he moved down to London and started working for Hawksmoor, one the world’s best steakhouses. It was here that his love for all things hospitality and especially wine grew. It was also here where he realised the importance of high standards, attention to detail and great hospitality!

Jack then moved into the exciting world of hospitality tech, helping develop and sell all types of solutions to help efficiency and modernise venues through QR codes. Having done this for a few years, Jack thought this would be a good time to move back into the family business and start learning the ropes officially with the idea of taking the reins and moving the company further forwards. He is hoping that he can expand the business in the Midlands area as well as developing business in other prestige UK accounts whilst also making some tactical inroads in London!
